This library was started during the first term of President Fernandez (1996-2000).
With the presence of His Excellency President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernandez Reyna, Secretary of State for Public Works and Communications delivered on Wednesday 9 November the Central Library of the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), remodeled at a cost of RD $ 250 million and equipped by amount of U.S. $ 20 million.
The ceremony scheduled for 6:00 pm. in the afternoon, was led by the governor and the secretary of Public Works and Communications, engineer Manuel de Js. Pérez Gómez. These accompanied him UASD authorities, headed by its rector, Mr. Roberto Reyna and government officials.
The work has more than 24 thousand square meters of building distributed four levels. The first level contains an auditorium with the best digital sound installations, lights, a high definition screen size of 300 inches, which is controlled by a wireless automation system, simultaneous translation in seven languages, video conferencing and Internet broadcast in real time . At this level there are also administrative offices, museum and reception area or lobby.
The second and third level have reading rooms, book stores, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, reading rooms and virtual classroom.
The room contains conference rooms, staff room, common bathrooms and VIP meeting rooms with video conferencing and video. The work also has two booths for power plants of 100 kilowatts, 600 kilowatts and 1,250 kilowatts, and two tankers with a capacity for 33 thousand gallons for toilets and another 20 thousand gallons for fire protection system.
The library has the highest technology in computer equipment, more than 736 computers networked computerized cataloging, equipped with the renowned software reference librarian and search for Endeavor.
